Service Description

Citizen journalists include those employed in government and professional business settings and write press releases or share information with news outlets and include people with cell phones recording events as they occur, and people who write stories on community emergencies. There are professional, ethical, and legal guidelines in writing news stories, recording events, and in publishing these stories. Most news outlets follow AP guidelines for professional cohesion and to receive AP benefits, such as breaking news. Writing ethical journalism means writing without bias, and when ethics are practiced, there is less worry about legal ramifications. Publishing citizen journalism can weaken a publisher's credibility because the stories are from untrained writers without knowledge of ethics and AP style and who may have weak grammar skills. This makes more work for editors and copy editors and lessons the chance of citizen journalism being published by a credible news outlet. Improve your chances of a byline and build a respectful name for yourself as a privately trained journalist today. I work as a journalist for Sandhills Sentinel and as an English teacher at a local community college. Contact me at gaumedup@gmail.com.
